My Teaching Website

Hello there and welcome!

My name is Martin Johns and I'm a teacher of English. Whether it's conversation English, grammar, or creative writing I'm your man!

Personal Description: I am a 29 year old, mother-tongued English tutor from Gloucestershire. I undertook a CELTA in January 2010. I thoroughly enjoyed it and achieved a level Grade ‘B’ from the world renowned centre of excellence that is Cambridge. I have been living in Bangkok since September 2011.

Teaching Experience: I am a fully qualified teacher of English as a second language and I’m looking to gain experience in teaching and would like to progress onto QTS and finally gain a scholarship. I am always enthusiastic about building knowledgeable foundations and adding zest and appeal to the subject I have become deft in. I am currently teaching 200 students over three classes at Patai Udom Suksa along Vibhavadee Rangsit, Bangkok. 120 of my students are primary 6 and the others are primary 3. Last semester I taught primary 5 and 6 plus first year senior schoolers. Over this past year I have wrote my own lesson plans, exams, and syllabi. I hold a one-to-one tutoring post with an autistic boy on a Wednesday evening in addition to my 26hrs of contact time. Last summer I taught at Gloucestershire College as a Summer Camp TEFL Teacher to teenagers aged 13-16 from Spain, Japan and China. I also tested the pupils and determined their abilities based on one written and one spoken test and I was their tour guide to excursions across the South West region. Last year I taught English to adults in a classroom environment to A2 (beginner) and B1 (pre-intermediate). I also tutor English online to a Japanese adult on a one-to-one basis.

Teaching Approach: Two words that best describe my angle on teaching are passionate and engaging. I believe that learning is a joy and should not feel like a chore and therefore try to make my classes as interesting for the student as possible. All my classes are tailor-made to the level of the class to ensure they are learning exactly what they want and need to know.

Practice is the key which is why I encourage students to speak and use the language as much as possible. Having been taught and employing the Cambridge structure and way of teaching, my lesson plans are always rigid and extremely well structured. I am driven by results meaning every time I teach I expect to achieve what I started out to do. This comes from my well organised, highly prepared, energetic work ethic.

I am a professional and neatly presented individual who takes pride in his work first and foremost. I take my classes very seriously fully utilizing the methodology and lay out from the University of Cambridge, my training body. My CELTA tutor told me that I was a natural born teacher and I truly believe her words as I have found teaching to be more rewarding than any hobby or work based achievement I have ever completed.

With all that said and done let's perfect your English skills!

A better future starts today!
